If you went back in time, would you be a god?
by Simon inwe just finished watching outlander which is about a woman who goes back in time ~200 years from the end of wwii.
she ends up in the scottish highlands in the middle of the jacobite uprising.
it's a great show although the last episodes were a little graphic (they make game of thrones seem like sesame street).. but it got me thinking ... if you went back in time would you in fact be the 'god' you may imagine because of your knowledge of modern technology and the future?.

Booze Boy, The Early Years
by olongapo joe insomeone commented on an old post, "jw's attract a lot of misfits and alcoholics" yep, fits my family to a t. booze was at every family reunion, party, picnic, you name it, if my family was gonna be there, there was gonna be lots of booze.
my pops was cheap (he dropped out of school in the 9th grade, so only worked low paying jobs) so to save money on beer, he and my uncle decide to make some homebrew (this is in the early 70's, before all the beer brewing kits you can get now).
they got a recipe from some old codger, dug up an old 30 gallon crock from god only knows where, and commences to buying cans of malt, bags of sugar, cases of empty bottles, a hand operated capping machine the whole nine yards, oh, it was a big operation, yep, were gonna save a bundle on beer!.

The GB know it's all lies and wants to dismantle the WTS ... then what?
by Simon inso imagine the gb have a sudden attack of honesty and realize "crap, this whole thing is lies - we're not god's spokespeople at all !".
how do you dismantle a religion that has +8 million members in a responsible way?
you can't just publish a watchtower saying "we were wrong" because that would be irresponsible - you need to let people down gently, put people off gradually.

The easiest way to dismantle the watchtower is call it something else...but do it in stages.
To start with...create a new trade mark...for instance..

I was ashamed
by Happeanna ini was once a person who believed in god destroying 7 billion people so a few people could live in paradise.. when the penny finally dropped and i realised what as a jehovah's witnesses i was really praying for , it made me feel sick.
what is attractive about a person that prays for this world to end .
i was ashamed to have been a witness deeply ashamed .

it makes me wonder how many converts the watchtower would get--if the armageddon / new world package had never been part of the deal. -

You Are Unsuitable!
by Divergent intoday's text -.
sunday, january 24. they collected the fine ones into containers, but the unsuitable they threw away.—matt.
13:48.. understanding the lesson of this illustration helps us to avoid being overly distraught or disappointed if a bible student or one of our children does not make the truth his own.

i was never suitable. i found it impossible to carry on pretending to be a jehovahs witness when i didnt believe in jehovah---whatever that might be..
if at some future date i get the call to become religious--i will shop around for a god that fits my requirements--not the other way round.

Proof the earth can be flat
by slimboyfat in"our perception of reality has more to do with what is going on in here (our brain) than what's going on out there (in the world).".
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03g221y.
is it a dark square or a light square?

A) Do you honestly expect people to belive " The Earth is Flat?
and why not ? would YOU believe there are some people that seriously believe their god ( ha ha--right )---is soon going to wipe out everyone else on earth--except them and their fellow cult members. not only that--they will live forever on this cleansed planet.
they need locking up somewhere safe.

JW's Funerals, Forget About The Person! Let's Preach.
by new boy ingod forbid you would talk about the dead person at his funeral.
so what do most people get after living 70-80 years?.
a 5-10 minutes eulogy.

Well...I announced on here last weekend.. My jw dad died last Saturday.
I've read his will...there's no instructions regarding his funeral.
As far as I am aware...he had no visits from anyone on his congregation in the last year or so. Certainly no elders. He was unable to attend any meetings or memorials in the last 3 years. I don't think anyone offered to take him. His jw granddaughter lives half a mile away from him. She never went near him.
I have arranged a simple non.religious ceremony...just the committal at a crematorium. No minister..no hymns. As far as I know..I will be the only mourner there.
